I am writing this blog as the world cup continues so some of my thoughts wont
match the actual results to the match.
Group Stage:
Its just amazing how four years went by so quickly because i still remember Higuin missing the golden oppurtunity against Manuel Neur in the world cup final in Rio Dijanerio in the American hour.The 2018 FWC Russia will probably be the last oppurtunity for stars like Ronaldo and Messi to fullfil their world cup dreams.This tournament has now officaly kicked off as hosts Russia slam Saudi Arabia by a wide margin of five goals.In Group B action kicked off with a thrilling match containg 6 goals between Spain and Portugal.Argentina start their world cup campgain with a stressing tie with Iceland which included Messi missing a penalty.One of the biggest upsets has taken place with Mexico defeating the Germans by a one goal margin.Moving on in the tournament all major teams have managed to qualify for the round of sixteen except for world champions Germany.
Round of Sixteen:
The thrilling Kazan Stadium located in Kazan Area was full of tears at the end of the evening where the runner ups Argentina went home after losing 4-3 to France but tears were also seen in Fishit Stadium, Sochi where the Portugeese giants went home after losing 2-1 to the South Americans Uruguay.The next round of sixteen match was between Spain and the host nation Russia.Let me be pretty honest, i was rooting for Spain in this matchup but what Russia did was beyond the thinkable.They shocked the entire world after beating Spain on their first ever penalty shootout.Even though Russian players could have celebrated, they came over to the spanish players to cheer them up.:THE SPIRIT OF FOOTBALL:But here the question was that who will face the determined Russian side.This questions answer was very easy.The match between Croatia and Denmark was going to decide this.Denmark have now scored their fastest goal in world cup history within just 2 minutes but Mario Mandazucic has equlized just moments later.Denmark have taken a brilliant Croatia side to Extra Time.But who knew that Denmark would suffer such a faith in extra time as Croatia was awarded a penalty which was completely fair to the Croatians.But little did the Croatian fans knew that the penalty was going to be saved.The match was going to be decided on the second penalty shootout of the day.This penalty shotout was by far the most dramatic one.But Croatia just won 3-2 on the shootout and will go on to face Russia.The next knockout match was between North America and South America.It was between Mexico and Brazil.The hype was great but the match turned out one sided as Brazil won 2-0.This world cup keeps on giving us more and more upsets.Japan vs Belgium was turning out as a big upset as Japan were 2-0 ahead but you got to have respect for the Belgian 11 who fought till the final moment and changed the prospect of the game.The final score was Belgium winning 3-2.The English men also qualified for the quarter finals as Hary Kane scored a penalty untill the Colombian equlizer due to which the match went on penalties where the England GoalKeeper kept his nerves.The English men also qualified for the quarter finals as Hary Kane scored a penalty untill the Colombian equlizer due to which the match went on penalties where the England GoalKeeper kept his nerves.The English men also qualified for the quarter finals as Hary Kane scored a penalty untill the Colombian equlizer due to which the match went on penalties where the England GoalKeeper kept his nerves.
Quarter Finals:
The time was here to decide which four teams would go into the 2018 Fifa World Cup Semi Finals.The first match was between the favorite France and Uruguay but it turned out that France were in all mood for a victory as they won convincingly.But the next match was going to be a cracker of a match between Brazil and Belgium.At first it looked like history was repeating itself but then Renato Sanchez goal was just a redemption as Belgium progressed to the semi-final.England vs Sweeden was a English show as they won 2-0.While the best match was Russia vs Croatia as it went on pentalties where Croatias Subasic came on top.
Semi-Finals:
The SemiFinals were very brief as France and the dark horses Croatia progressed to the Big Match.
The Final:
It was the big day.It was 15th of July.It was the final of the 2018 Fifa world cup.It was France vs Croatia.Although France were the better team on the day as they won the cup, you have to give Croatia some credit for coming this far in the tournament.
